Duck Soup are hiring an Executive Producer, 4 days per week, to work alongside the Founders on a rich and diverse slate of TV projects.

This is a Fixed Term (One Year) Maternity Cover with potential for a permanent position, starting in June 2021.

Our office is based in Leeds, but remote working is expected.

The Executive Producer will work alongside, and report to the Founders of Duck Soup, covering a number of existing TV Drama series as well as sourcing new projects for the slate.

Job Specification – Key Responsibilities

  • To understand and communicate the Duck Soup brand and the needs of the company.

  • To drive forward the creative process on specific TV developments on behalf of the company and to foster an environment whereby this creative process can flourish.

  • To seek out and commission new ideas, appropriate writers and exciting projects to the slate and secure the rights to screenplays and novels.

  • To identify and secure financial partners in association with and on behalf of the production company.

  • To communicate with broadcasters and other key stake holders on existing projects in development and production.

  • To maintain regular communication with key creatives on projects.

  • To maintain clear and regular communication with the founders.

  • To liaise, with utmost diplomacy, between key creatives, commissioners, producers, line producers and so on, to ensure the best version of the project is produced for the production company.

  • To use extensive storytelling skills to impact positively on the development process and ensure the script is the best it can possibly be.

  • Headline development and production planning including top level budgeting and scheduling through to delivery on behalf of the production company.

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and codes of practice.

  • To control expenditure as required by the production company.

  • To ensure health & safety considerations are at all times paramount.

Person Specification – Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Required

  • Excellent track record as a highly experienced programme maker, including experience of making drama for prime time.

  • Highly developed editorial skills with sound judgement.

  • Excellent pitching skills.

  • Promotes diversity with regard to on-screen portrayal and off- screen employment.

  • Sound understanding of the broadcasting industry and International TV drama market with good relationships with key commissioners at UK Broadcasters and SVOD’S.

  • Knowledge of audiences and ability to focus efforts on identifying and meeting their needs.

  • Excellent Leadership skills including people management, business and financial management, planning and organisation skills.

  • Able to manage conflicting views effectively and make difficult and sensitive decisions under time pressure when required.

  • Ability to work co-operatively with others as part of a team and build and maintain effective working relationships with the whole range of colleagues.

  • Excellent decision making, strategic planning and problem solving.

  • Awareness of budgeting, costing and forecasting procedures and current market costs of internal and external resources.

  • Demonstrates commitment, motivation and drive.
