Duck Soup Films are looking for a Development Executive

Duck Soup are hiring a Development Executive, 4 days per week, to work alongside the Founders on a rich and diverse slate of Film & TV projects.

This is a Fixed Term (One Year) Maternity Cover with potential for a permanent position, starting in June 2021.

Our office is based in Leeds, but remote working is expected.

The Development Executive will work alongside, and report to the Founders of Duck Soup, supporting a number of existing Feature Film and TV Drama series as well as sourcing new projects for the slate.

Job Specification – Key Responsibilities

  • To understand and communicate the Duck Soup brand and the needs of the company.

  • To manage the large slate of TV & Film projects on the Duck Soup development slate.

  • To run regular Development Meetings with the Duck Soup team to update and check in on projects.

  • To use extensive storytelling skills to impact positively on the development process and ensure the script is the best it can possibly be.

  • To maintain regular communication with key creatives on projects and to foster an environment whereby the creative process can flourish.

  • To lead on the development of projects, compiling development notes for writers and running development sessions with talent.

  • To lead on editorial feedback on scripts.

  • To maintain clear and regular communication with the Founders/Exec producers.

  • To liaise and communicate with commissioners/broadcasters during the development of projects.

  • To seek out new ideas, talent and IP to bring to the slate.

  • To lead in developing new ideas and building trusting relationships with talent.

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and codes of practice.

Person Specification – Knowledge, Skills & Competencies Required

  • Highly developed editorial skills with sound judgement.

  • Excellent personal and communication skills. Both written and verbal.

  • Sound understanding of the broadcasting industry and international TV & Film landscape.

  • Excellent talent and agent relationships.

  • A strong awareness of new and emerging talent and how to engage with them.

  • Knowledge of audiences and ability to focus efforts on identifying and meeting their needs.

  • Demonstrates commitment, motivation and drive.

  • Able to work across multiple projects to a high standard.

  • Ability to work co-operatively with others as part of a team and build and maintain effective working relationships with the whole range of colleagues.

  • Promotes diversity with regard to on-screen portrayal and off- screen employment.
